"After listening to Ronian and combining that with your own life experiences,
what you think will be the story you will like to share with your descendants
and others when you near mid-life?"
Ronian shared a lot of though-provoking material about his life and his background, talking about his interest in astronomy as a child and how he developed and explored his passion, his results in university and his experience in working life. Since childhood, I always have had an interest to explore, create things. Like Ronian, who had a supportive father who contacted an astronomer at the observatory, I have also been blessed with supportive parents, who bought me numerous books when I was young (before, of course, information became so readily available on the Internet), and through these books, I learnt about so many things. From studying the characteristics of various animals and plants (zoology and botany), to how things work in our daily lives, to how different types of rocks are made(geology), to the history of ancient civilisations, to the study of the times when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was exposed to many interesting fields of knowledge from young. Various books on experiments as well as model kits also stirred my interest to create and to investigate and to learn.
In school, I have learnt much from the formal lessons, but much of my learning has always been outside the textbooks, in which I explored the wonders of many other fields of knowledge. Exams and competitions, such as general science competitions, the various science olympiads, project competitions, and various "specialised" competitions such as those on microbiology, merely served as a checkpoint, something to determine if I have learnt the basic knowledge required of me.
At present, as a result of my exposure to numerous fields of knowledge, I love reading and learning many things, and it is hard at present to come to a choice of a future career. The future is unclear, but I can tell others that I always have maintained the desire to know and find out more. Knowledge is divided into numerous disciplines, but in the end, all of it is integrated into one, and I never limit my interest to only one subject at a time.
